 Darcy...? (spoilers, maybe?)
Not sure what qualifies as "spoilers" here... (Yes, I'm a newbie!!! Ack!)
Anyway, I recently finished reading the series. There was something that got to me that was never answered:
If David's real name was not David Qin, then how come Darcy's maiden name was Qin?
Plot hole? Or has it been explained? Or does anyone have any cool theroies that would pull that plot hole together and answer this?

 Re: Darcy...? (spoilers, maybe?)
Her profile on the official site says she was born in Hong Kong. Since she and David had different mothers, I assumed that she took her mother's name for some reason. And David could have adopted her name as a form of disguise while spying on the Ambiguously Gay Duo.
What I really wonder is how she managed to be 42 when David was in his early 20s while still appearing to be about 5 years older than him in issues 61-63...

@Pluto: There's no way your theory could work out, remember what we learnt about David's past in #61-63? :-X
Welcome to the bunch TastyPrawn,
have some milk & oreos and make yourself comfy around here.
The sourcebook only gives her as "Darcy Ono Takahashi-Parker" (short: Darcy Parker). So it's all up to guess...
My guess would be that she might have used the name Qin in relation to her brother, whom she had (and probably still desired) an incestual relationship with. Maybe for her using the name Qin brought her closer to being David's wife?
On the other hand, seeing what she's given to identify with from the Takahashi-Clan, tending to call herself a Qin might speak of a completely different desire.... I'd have to re-read part of the story, but could it be that she secretly admired, maybe even envied, David for his strong and determined belief...?

The first thing that popped into my mind was maybe Qin was used to distance themselves from the yakuza... But then I was like "huh?!" I dunno, really...

Maybe for her using the name Qin brought her closer to being David's wife? That makes some sense to me. She was a very obsessive woman... Botox and plastic surgery, perhaps? She never really looked 42 to me.

 Re: Darcy...? (spoilers, maybe?)
My assumption was that Terry had second thoufght about the Qin name, realizing it was more Chinese than Japanese, and thus later stories explain how David adopted the dead boy's name. But I think early on, Terry simply intended the Qin name as a Japanese name, and later changed his mind.
I don't think one should try to construct the "Darcy Qin" reference into a unified continuity; I view it as a glitch in what was a work--in-progress.

 Re: Darcy...? (spoilers, maybe?)
I agree with Kent. There are quite a few plot holes that came up because the story changed while Terry was writing it (the biggest being the 10-year separation, which was such a major thing he needed to find a way out of it - compared to that, a name change is a tiny inconsistency).

i always just viewed it as one of the many plot-holes, who was it that said you shouldn't let facts get in the way of a good yarn?
